It’s Prequel season – which movie packs the biggest promise?

It’s “Big Summer Movie” season, which means action movies, remakes, sequels and prequels.  This last weekend, Wolverine grossed $87 million on opening weekend.  A few other notable prequels in the last few years pulls are below:

  • Batman Begins grossed over $48 million in 2005 on opening weekend, $372 million worldwide total
  • Red Dragon grossed over $36 million in 2002 on opening weekend, $209 million worldwide total
  • Star Wars Episodes I-III gross over 253.2 million on their respective opening weekends in 1999, 2002 and 2005; 2.4 billion worldwide total
  • The Scorpion King grossed over $36 million in 2002 on opening weekend, $136 million total worldwide

I don’t care which one of those you think was the better prequel (because the best prequel is a toss-up between Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Godfather II, both of which were prequels, taking place chronologically before the original), the real question is which of the upcoming prequels are you most excited for?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Star Trek (2009)
The Hobbit (2011)
